Reporting to the Employment Services Coordinator and under the guidance of the Director of Nursing & Healthcare Operations, the Healthcare Co-op Placement Coordinator is responsible for supporting the student placements for the HCA Co-op program.

Responsibilities

Identifying, developing, promoting, and coordinating co-op placement based on the program needs of the students:

  • Demonstrating an understanding of Sprott Shaw College’s HCA Program: structure of the curriculum, and relevance of on-site placements.
  • Organizing Co-op placements
  • Providing support as a liaison between students and co-op placement sites to ensure understanding regarding processes, requirements, and expectations
  •  Checking and tracking all Campus co-op placement partners to ensure quality and relevance to learning objectives
  • Reporting on placement communications and, tracking site visits by Campus
  • Ensuring placement compliance to program standards and the BC Practice Education Guidelines [PEGs] requirements
  • Reviewing and understanding the policy and procedures of each facility
  • Securing and supporting affiliation agreements with placement sites
  • Encouraging program, host and student feedback on all processes and initiatives

Assists students with their placements through:

  • Supporting students, ensuring all pre-placement requirements are valid and in the student file
  • Communicating all schedules for co-op placements
  • Ensuring all timesheets, monthly reports and evaluations are submitted on time
  • Scheduling co-op make ups or alternate placements as needed, in coordination with the placement site
  • Improving resume writing, interview preparation and practice sessions
  • On-going placement follow-up and check-ins with student and host

Represents the Co-op Placement department through:

  • Ensuring that all site course evaluations/feedback are completed and submitted to each campus
  • Securing program feedback participation, including Program Advisory Committee (PAC) members
  • Developing and maintaining resource material to support co-op orientation, training and placement
  • Liaising with facility partners and campuses to promote co-op placements

Assists the Employment Services Specialist department through:

  • Taking part in the program TEAMs and contributing feedback for the betterment of the program
  • Attending faculty meetings, in-service training and Professional Days
  • Offering Assistance to other faculty and staff
  • Participating in graduation functions
  • Ensuring students complete evaluations of the program and co-op course at the end of the co-op experience
  • Organizing and supporting Sprott Shaw activities that promote employment and placement opportunities e.g. Job Fairs

Performs other related duties as required:

  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing

Qualifications and Education

  • Two (2) or more years of pertinent experience in education or the healthcare sector
  • Preference may be given to candidates with HSPnet knowledge, and the completion of site-specific required certifications/modules. For example: Health Authority Learning HUB Student Placement Orientation modules (SPECO)
