Reporting to the College Director with a dotted line to the Employment Services Coordinator, the Employment Services Specialist supports current students by facilitating the students’ success and job search training, following up on existing students and graduates with solid career development advice, and monitoring students’ progress on student loan repayment. The Employment Services Specialist will develop relationships with local employers, businesses, and government agencies to benefit the employment opportunities of our graduates. The duties and responsibilities may require flexibility in work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate two classes: Strategies for Student Success and Career and Professional Development 
    • Note:  If students are given a grade at the end of class other than complete/incomplete, then the qualifications of the ESS must match instructor qualifications
  • Evaluate current Career Planning and Management course and provide input to improve the product given to our students
  • Maintain current labour market information in areas where SSC provides training
  • Provide input to the Employment Services Specialist Coordinator on labour market information, placement results by program, and other relevant information for the purposes of evaluating current curriculum content
  • Create and maintain a campus job board by calling and visiting employers, want ads, and being involved in community events and organizations (i.e. Chamber of Commerce, Board of Trade, Community Job Fairs)
  • Submit weekly and/or monthly statistical reports to the Employment Services Coordinator
  • Organize job fairs at the campus with local employers and government agencies
  • Follow up, document, and verify the status of all graduates until employment is obtained
  • Conduct in-person interviews with students regarding resumes, interviews, and job search status
  • Work one-on-one with SSC graduates on resume revisions, target cover letters, and interview skills
  • Arrange touch-back meetings with graduates either individually or in groups on an ongoing basis until employed
  • Follow all directions in procedures to conduct in-person exit interviews, ensure the student loan repayment procedures are followed, and the data entered into FAST is accurate
  • Work in conjunction with the Financial Administrator and Administrative Assistant regarding required information entered into FAST
  • Work with graduates on their financial plans regarding their student loan payments
  • Develop, implement and/or maintain a database of graduate employment activity for all graduates
  • Create an employment statistics report every month for each campus as assigned which includes all required information to use in the compiling of reports for regulatory bodies
  • Prepare for the graduation ceremonies with the assistance of the Employment Services Coordinator

Qualifications and Education

  • Completion of the Career Development Practitioner Certificate or other qualification in the field of study (or in progress)
  • At least two years of experience in the career development field
  • Proven computer ability – certificate or diploma in office software applications OR letter(s) of confirmation of minimum of two years’ experience from previous employers required
  • Experience in adult education is an asset
  • Knowledge of Canada Student Loans and Student Aid BC policies and procedures is an asset

The Employment Services Specialist will work with our Electrical Trades program students and assist Head Office with some administrative duties. Must have access to a reliable vehicle. Benefits included. "sj"
