Reporting to the Campus Director, the Lead ECE Instructor is responsible for delivering components of the courses to students.


  • Instruct curriculum using only pre-authorized and/or Sprott Shaw materials 
  • Take part in our program TEAMs and contribute to maintaining the curriculum for the betterment of the program
  • Organize and is responsible for instructor materials
  • Distribute and explain course outlines at the beginning of every class to every student
  • Define daily objectives and begin with an overview of the daily lesson plan
  •  Check inventory and order lab supplies as needed
  • Administer all assessments as closed book (exceptions are noted on the specific course outlines) and according to guidelines and procedures 
  • Grade and check daily work, projects, and quizzes in a timely fashion according to guidelines
  • Follow procedures for administering, recording grades, and filing assessments
  • Use the Classroom Observation Worksheet to guide teaching practices
  • Provide Head Office with an evaluation of each course taught 
  • Participate in grad functions

 Qualifications and Education

Instructors/facilitators must have an appropriate combination of education, occupational experience and teaching experience as follows:

  • For career programs, a certificate/diploma/degree related to the field of instruction, supplemented by 24 months of occupational experience in the field of instruction
  • For designated or recognized trade programs, an appropriate trade qualification supplemented by 48 months of occupational experience in the field of instruction
  • For all programs, institutions need to provide evidence by way of an annual performance review that all regular* instructors have adequate instructional skills and any identified shortcomings or areas for development in instructional design, instructional delivery, or educational outcomes must be addressed by the institution through appropriate professional development plans

* Regular instructors include:  Instructors employed or contracted on a full-time basis; part-time instructors who are employed or contracted on a regular basis for more than two courses a year

Instructors who have the following qualifications may be moved into a Lead Instructor role:

  • Sufficient teaching experience (minimum 3 years full-time or 5 years part-time) within SSC  
  • And / or managerial experience (2 years as shown by letter from employer)
  • Must have or be working towards an Adult Instruction Credential 

Additional duties may include: 

  • Attending the annual ECE articulation meeting 
  • Maintaining communication with the ECE Registry 
  • Facilitating applications for the ECE programming at specific campuses
  • Facilitating and preparing for site visits from the ECE Registry 
  • Ensuring that instructors and programs meet current standards as outlined by the ECE Registry 
  • Submitting annual training profiles to the ECE Registry 
  • Submitting new instructor resumes to the ECE Registry 
  • Answering questions from Directors and Instructors on the ECE policy 
  • Facilitating ECE team meetings through WebEx

Must have a minimum of 2 years experience and hold ECE license Expected start date: March 2021 "SJ"
